See a retina specialist if you have diabetes, sudden floaters or flashes, a shadow or curtain in vision, distorted central vision, unexplained vision loss, or if another doctor has detected a retinal problem on examination.
Allow 45–90 minutes for a first visit: dilating drops take 20–30 minutes to work, and imaging adds time. Follow-up visits are usually quicker.
